Are you having a hard time figuring out how to get back into a gym routine? Struggling to wake up early or get to the gym on a daily basis? After falling off track for a few days, weeks or, let’s face it, months; it may be hard to find a way to get back to it without it feeling like an obstacle.

The best way to start is with a plan. Don’t let the planning overwhelm you, but allow it to give you something to look forward to. How many days a week are you able to go? Is morning or night time the best slot?

When starting to get back into the gym rhythm, be sure to start small so that you can ease your body into moving again. We want you to be back in the gym the next day so the last thing we want is to overwhelm the body. We recommend working out every other day which will allow the body time to rest and recover and give you exposure to the different movements. Then as your body gets acclimated, adding more days will be more beneficial.

When you have an idea of what times you’ll be at the gym, make a friend at those class times! Workout buddies are always a great way to provide accountability. It’ll be even better if they are already in a routine, this will help to give you some extra motivation to stick with them! Hop on track with them and crush those goals together.

Once you’ve got your schedule set up and an accountabili-buddy, it’s time to set a goal. Setting this goal will help to keep you on track, and continue pushing to get to the gym and work hard. Make sure that goal is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Sensitive. In a separate post, we’ll talk about how to best make a S.M.A.R.T. goal. With gym goals or even nutrition goals, the coaches at Evolve would love to help you reach them. Watching athletes grow and accomplish things they set their minds to is what we love doing!
